Barbados bestaat uit één enkel eiland, dat behoort tot de Bovenwindse Eilanden. Het is het meest oostelijk gelegen gebied van de Antillen. De eerste Europese zeevaarders die er aankwamen, vernoemden het eiland naar de eel voorkomende “bebaarde vijgenboom” Los Barbados.

From which our pride is sprung,

Of what it has withstood
